On the last day of the last half term, Year 6 students enjoyed a deliciously exciting trip to Cadbury World, in Birmingham!
The trip was a wonderful blend of fun and learning, giving the children the chance to explore the fascinating world of chocolate and discover the history behind one of the world’s most famous brands. The trip tied in perfectly with our current history topic on the Ancient Mayans, allowing for the children to connect what they’ve learned in class with the world of chocolate today. The Ancient Mayans were some of the first people to discover cocoa beans and use them to make a drink called xocolatl, a bitter chocolate drink often mixed with spices. Students were amazed to learn how the Mayans used cocoa beans as both a food source and a form of currency! This gave them a deeper understanding of how valuable cocoa was long before it became the sweet treat we know today.
The day was a fun, enriching experience that helped our Year 6 students see the lasting impact of the Ancient Mayan civilization on the world of chocolate today. We hope some of the free chocolate which was given out on the tour made it home, but we cannot be held responsible if it did not!
