In celebration of the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, our school was invited to participate in the Year 5/6 Quadkids Athletics Competition at the Peterborough Athletics Track, along with other children from across the City.
While there the children all participated in four athletics events. We were fortunate enough to begin with the 600m race, before the temperature got too hot, before moving on to the standing long jump. Next up was the 75m sprint in our last event before lunch. During the lunch break the children were fortunate enough to meet current Olympian Ashley Watson, who represented Jamaica in the Beijing Winter Olympics earlier this year. Ashley, who participated as a part of Jamaica's Bobsleigh team, was a real inspiration for the children who loved meeting him. After lunch the children took part in a fun non-competitive session with Tanzii tv before completing their final event, the Vortex throw.
Overall, the children did incredibly well managing to finish in 5th place out of 12 schools but even more importantly they had a brilliant time and met lots of other athletes from other schools who they enjoyed competing against.
